Dr. M.A. Khan : Director General

Dr. M.A. Khan is a reputed international level academician/scientist/administrator. He has a brilliant academic record throughout his educational career. Dr. Khan is a graduate in Agl. Engineering, Master and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and PGDC in Remote Sensing and GIS from National Institute of Environmental Studies (NIES), Tsukuba, Japan. He has
more than 38 years experience in teaching, research and administration at very high positions at National and International levels. He guided M.Tech and Ph.D. in the field of hydrology and environmental Engineering. Before joining as Director General, Azad Group of Educational Institutions, Dr. Khan was Director of ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Government of India, covering seven eastern states (Eastern U.P., Bihar, Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Orissa). He was also Benchmark Basin Coordinator of CGIAR (International) for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.

During 1979-85, Dr. Khan worked as Project Director, Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority, Govt. of Nigeria, the largest irrigation project of Africa. During 1987-2001, he worked as Project Coordinator, Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission, Govt. of India for Rajasthan and Gujarat. In recognisation to his scientific excellence and immense contribution, Dr. Khan was nominated and worked as one of the Expert Member of Prime Minister of India’s delegations to Niger to prepare feasibility report on natural resources for cooperation between the two countries. Prime Minister’s Office also assigned him the responsibility of preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) on damages caused due to severe earthquake, 2001 and rehabilitation plan in Bhuj, Kachchh district of Gujarat. He presented DPR in PM Office before Cabinet Ministers and other very high level dignitaries.

Dr. Khan has long international exposure. He visited USA, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Niger, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Libya, UAE etc. He has more than 230 publications of research papers in reputed international and national journals, books and bulletins to his credit. In recognition to his outstanding contributions and innovations in science and technology, Dr. Khan was awarded with five most prestigious awards; President Gold Medal Award (Nigeria), UNESCO Award, Sir Vishveshvaraya Memorial Award, Excellence and Gold Medal Award of International Science Forum, and Jal Bhagirathi Foundation Award. He has organized several seminar/ symposia/workshop/summer institute/training programs and coordinated visits of several Foreign/Indian high powered delegations. Dr. Khan is also member of Research Advisory Committee of several national and international institutions/ organizations/ universities/central and state govt. ministries/departments, NGOs, etc.
